Polish Summer of Fashion: My graduation collection

Today I want to take you guys on the travel to the process of creating my graduation collection!

First step - Inspiration:
I took the inspiration from„Nothing Personal” – a movie by polish movie directior Ursula Antoniak. In one of the scenes of this movie, a woman leaves her scent on the linen in the stranger’s bedroom. As a final touch, she leaves the fire-red lock of her hair between the sheets, just as if it was the most natural thing in the world.

My collection subtitle could be: “Clothing as a map of human scents.”

Second step - Designing:
I designed eight outfits. The collection consists of tops, blouses, skirts and pants.
Each of them tells the story of a different spot on the body. Presenting the natural fragrance of the body, not perfumes, which is still a taboo in everyday life.
I designed outfits representing the diffusion of scents. Silhouettes, which give you the cozy and intimate feeling while close to your body, but which don’t hinder your moves.

Third Step - Colors:
Throughout the collection I am showing the relation between the body, its fragrance and the fabric, together with the places where the scent is most often left. Since the skin was the very important inspiration, the color scheme of the collection is relating to its colors – we have nude, beige, ecru, different shades of grey, blurry pink contrasting with black additions.

Fourth Step - Choice of fabrics:
The collection is based on organza corsages and elastic tapes. Broad and tight stripes of fabrics entangling the upper body. The silhouettes are mostly complicated to ephasize the fragrance of the female body.
Lower parts, on the other hand, are ephemeral and light.
The lower fabrics are all light; they are the space where the sensuality meets intimacy. They invite one to tuck in, feel safe and hide from the world. Shoes are the necessary supplement of the collection. Made from corresponding fabrics, My collection transcends our senses.

If you woud like to see it feel invited to come for a show during Designblok, Prague Design and Fashion Week 2014 that is in October, 6 - 12! I would be happy to see you there!

Julia.
