Sandor Lakatos exhibited his collection for women in Paris this year during the Paris Fashionweek and we were lucky enough to ask him some personal questions about this experience and his newly launched collection.
- How was the exhibition in Paris and how did it affect the future plans with the brand?
It was much more than I have expected. This is the first time that my collection is exhibited at a fashion week, and it was great to see the reactions, some really influential people visited the showroom, and they helped me a lot in terms of what to focus on, promotion, business, and the fashion industry in general. My future plans? We are coming back for the menswear week in January, that is for sure. To be honest, I am much more interested in designing menswear, and that is going to stay in my main focus, I will continue doing what i am doing. I am in the middle of working on the FW15 menswear collection and campaign, this is always the part I enjoy the most, and this week in Paris confirmed that I am on the right path, that my concept of style and my mindset has a future here, and everywhere. So i will just keep doing what I believe is my job and mission. I cant wait to see what the next year brings.
- What was the point when you decided to design a collection for her? Which type of woman do you have in mind while designing?
To be honest i was pushed to do it (laugh)... I am not very interested in womenswear, but many people wrote me to design something for women, or make exclusive items to order, so I decided to just apply my favourite technical tricks of menswear on the female figure. The challenge was to make it extremely feminine at the same time: I didnt want it to look like a mini menswear collection. I love women who are like actresses, versatile, who have many faces and they know when to hide, or come at you "fully armed." My womenswear collection includes some timeless classics, like the black suit, mini dress, and blazers with A-lne skirts, but I played a little trick by using some almost completely see-through fabrics for the "show-off" factor. I wanted to mix a serious businesswoman and a crazy exhibitionist... it resulted in something like a female version of James Bond... :) It was an interesting experiment.
-Which are the three pieces from your new collection which shouldn't lack in any woman's wardrobe?
Everything of course! This is a hard question to answer, as I have no idea of what is going on in women's heads. It depends on the person, the taste. There are some basic items of course, that look good on any body types, like the A-line skirts that have a flexible wire to shape them as you like, with matching tops (avaliable in black and white).
-And since we all love Paris: What makes the city so special for you? What does it mean to you to present your new collection in Paris?
It was thrilling to see a society, a nation that loves ART. People are simply interested, enthusiastic and educated in aesthetics, so there is a demand and a market for new things. The city itself is full of beautiful sculptures, buildings, and you can see that parisians know what Style means. I have heard of this, but I never thought it was more than a cliche. You can see families on a Sunday afternoon, buying paintings at a contemporary artist's gallery - something truly amazing. In most places in the World artists struggle to get attention, and have to compromise their vision to fit in - in Paris, there is a place for real art. On the other hand, it is a test: people have an eye for "real" things, so there is no place for copycats and fake stuff. To receive such great feedback from the locals was a real honor, and it confirmed me to go ahead, to create and develop.
