Romani Design Hungary.

On Monday evening we attended the fashion show of Romani Design Hungary which was showcased in the stunning Museum of Fine Arts in Budapest.
We were happy to attend this event because Romani Design does not only create fashion but moreover wants to help people with it.
Founded in 2009 by Erika Varga, the label works on the peaceful coexistence of Roma people and their neighbours since then.
All the clothes of the label are strongly influenced by the traditional clothes of the Roma culture. Traditional textiles and patterns are combined with innovative shapes and cuts.
Designing clothes is a tool for communication and to transfering a message to people for Erika Varga. Her clothes don't follow the latest fashion but are always wearable and modern. This should approach Roma and Non-Roma people likewise and implement a cultural exchange.
Like that a dialogue between different cultures should start and help to delete prejudices and declare ignorance.
We admire this project and are happy to see that fashion is used as an intercultural communication channel. The name of the collection is "My identity - My freedom" and is inspired by the strong women of this century
These were our three favourite looks of the show:

"Our mission is to be present in every aspect of society to decrease social conflicts and prejudice towards the Roma people. While it is easy to admire the fashion of the Roma, few understand the culture behind it. Our goal is to bridge the gap between admiration of the clothes and understanding of the culture through fashion."
